Star attraction - Gareth Bale could be set to grace the Weston Homes Community Stadium when the U's take on Spurs in a pre-season friendly next month.

Colchester United will host Tottenham Hotspur in a pre-season friendly next month.

Andre Villas Boas will bring his Premier League side to the Weston Homes Community Stadium to face the U's on Friday, July 19, kick-off 7pm.

Spurs have said they will bring a first-team squad to the Community Stadium for the game, which follows hot on the heels of Colchester's game against West Ham United, three days earlier.

And after taking on two Premier League clubs, the U's will then pit their wits against East Anglian neighbours Ipswich Town, on July 23.

Following the confirmation of Spurs' visit to the Community Stadium, the U's trip to play non-league Histon in another pre-season friendly has now been moved to Wednesday, July 24.

United we stand says...

It's beginning to feel a bit like pre-season "overload" now! - but a great fixture to look forward ahead to....and one that should certainly pull in a healthy load of floating fans from both sides. I can already imagine the queue of cars along United Way for this 7pm Friday night kick-off.

Boris says...

Why is the Gazette still displaying the final result of its closed poll saying that 55% of readers believe the U's will be relegated in May 2013? It should have been removed pretty soon after the victory at Carlisle. But, two months after that event, it is still there.
