Gavin Massey is confident Colchester United can still make the play-offs - providing they rediscover their shooting boots.

The U’s lie six points off the top-six, ahead of their trip to play relegation-threatened Walsall tonight.

They know that a victory at the Banks’s Stadium would boost their slim hopes of making the play-offs, with eight games to go.

John Ward’s side have embarked on a nine-match unbeaten run but have drawn their last five matches in League One.

While their defensive record has been impressive of late, Colchester have scored only three times in their last five games.

And Watford loanee Massey feels that if they hit form again in front of goal, they can finish the season in style.

Massey said: “The majority of games we’ve played recently have been against top-six teams.

“We’ve shown the fans that we’re there or thereabouts with our performances against the top sides.

“To draw five games in a row is a bit frustrating but you can see that we’re pushing in the right direction.

“At the moment, things aren’t really how they should be in the final third.

“That’s the most frustrating thing, because we know what we’re capable of.

“What we need to do now is turn those draws into wins and find our cutting edge.

“If we can do that, we can push into the top-six.

“We have to remember also that we’re nine games unbeaten.

“We’re not conceding goals and it’s a case of us finding the right balance.

“As soon as we can get our attacking game going again, I’m sure that we can go up the league.

“There’s still eight games left and we’re nowhere near out of it yet.”
