Geraint Williams is ready to do battle with the curse of manager-of-the-month awards.

The Colchester United boss was presented with the award today, after reviving his team's fortunes during a superb September.

The U's had a woeful start to the season, failing to pick up any points until they beat Derby County in a seven-goal thriller at the end of August.

They also suffered the embarrassment of a Carling Cup first-round exit at the hands of Coca-Cola League Two side Milton Keynes Dons.

However, Williams has turned it round in September and, after bagging 11 points out of a possible 15, has hauled his team up to mid-table in the Championship to earn his award.

The old curse says, though, that the manager-of-the-month is destined to fall from grace and suffer defeat in their next game, which would be the U's trip to face Wolverhampton Wanderers on October 14.

Williams, though, is determined not to let that happen.

"They call it the curse of the award, but I don't believe it," said Williams.
