Colchester United's League One clash with Sheffield United has been postponed.
Following a 1pm pitch inspection at the Weston Homes Community Stadium, referee Trevor Kettle said it was an "easy decision", following freezing temperatures.
Kettle said: "I think it was a very easy decision.
"There's a 20-metre strip across the pitch where the stand casts a shadow, which is really solid.
"Even stood there now with the temperature at one degree, the wind chill factor is making that lower, with anticipated sub-zero temperatures tonight and tomorrow morning, the probability of the pitch being playable was very low.
"In the interests of safety, I was of the opinion that the game should be called off."
A new date for the game is yet to be arranged.
