Ben Williams insists Colchester United’s gritty performance at Tranmere Rovers is proof that they are capable of making the League One play-offs.
The U’s goalkeeper pulled off a string of impressive saves in the second half to help his side secure a hard-earned 0-0 draw at Prenton Park.
Colchester are five points off the top-six places and have lost only one of their last eight games.
Keeper Williams believes it is about time the U’s put a consistent run together and put pressure on the teams above them.
Williams said: “It’s up to us to maintain a good run of form and get into the play-offs, at least.
“If you look at the league, you could argue that there are more than six teams who are seen as bigger than us.
“We’d be gate-crashing the party if you like but we have the squad and management that are more than capable of doing that.
“We have to get our heads down and work hard and performances like the one at Tranmere are something to build on.
“It’s been three years now that we’ve been close to it and fallen away and I think it’s about time that we proved a point and did it.”
