Colchester United went out of the Essex Senior Cup in dramatic fashion tonight.
A strong U's side lost 3-2 at Dagenham and Redbridge at Victoria Road, despite twice coming from behind to draw level.
Dagenham took the lead on the half hour mark when Josh Scott lashed in a fine shot from outside of the area.
Anthony Wordsworth's effort crashed against the underside of the crossbar, while Graeme Montgomery also hit the woodwork for Daggers soon after, in a lively first half.
Colchester goalkeeper Mark Cousins made a number of good stops in the second half, before Ian Henderson converted Medy Elito's cross with 11 minutes to go, to take the tie into extra-time.
Danny Green's deflected effort restored Dagenham's lead just before the end of the first period of extra-time.
But with their first attack of the second period of extra-time, Wordsworth levelled things up with a cheeky flick from close range from Elito's cross.
It looked as though the tie was heading for penalties.
But Luke Wilkinson headed in from a corner with seven minutes remaining in the second period.
And Liam Henderson missed a great chance to make it 3-3 for Colchester when he crashed a penalty against the crossbar with practically the last kick of the game, as the U's went out.
