Andy Marshall has hailed the quality of John Ward’s Colchester United squad.
But the former Ipswich Town and Norwich City goalkeeper has admitted he does not expect to be a part of the U’s promotion challenge this season.
The 35-year-old - a free agent after leaving Premier League club Aston Villa - has been training with Colchester this summer.
He was drafted in last week after first-choice shot-stopper Ben Williams picked up a knee injury in training.
However, Williams is close to fitness again - and Marshall is unlikely to sign permanently with the U’s.
Marshall told the Gazette: “There’s nothing going to come of it, short of a miracle happening."
