Colchester United newcomer Brian Wilson has revealed manager John Ward was a key factor in him signing for the club.

The former Manchester United trainee was one part of a double signing made by the U’s, following the arrival of midfielder Andrew Bond from non-league Barrow.

Wilson, 27, has signed for Colchester on a free transfer, following his release from Championship club Bristol City last month.

And having played under boss Ward at former club Cheltenham Town, the midfielder is looking forward to working under the U’s manager once again.

Wilson told the Gazette: “I know John from my Cheltenham days.

“He’s a good manager and I’m looking forward to working with him again.

“It wasn’t a tough decision to come here because I had a word with John and I know what he’s all about.

“I want to knuckle down over pre-season, work hard and get this club into the Championship.”
