Colchester United’s new boss John Ward has already made contact with potential transfer targets.
And Carlisle United defender Richard Keogh is believed to be at the top of his wish-list.
Ward is a big admirer of Keogh, having signed him while manager of the Cumbrians in 2008.
The 23-year-old is said to be currently mulling over a new contract at Brunton Park.
And having succeeded Aidy Boothroyd as manager of the U’s, Ward is expected to attempt to capitalise on that uncertainty.
Ward revealed he has already touched base with players he would like at Colchester next season.
He said: “We have a list of players and I made contact with two or three of them this morning."
