U's winger Simon Hackney has signed for Coca-Cola League Two side Morecambe on a month's loan.
The former Carlisle United player has found first-team opportunities hard to come by at Colchester under manager Aidy Boothroyd.
Hackney was signed by former manager Paul Lambert in January, 2009 and has made 35 league and cup appearances for the U's, scoring twice.
He is line to make his Morecambe debut on Saturday against Grimsby Town and will now move to Christie Park in the hope of getting games under his belt.
