Ipswich Town boss Roy Keane says it could be a busy few days before the transfer window shuts on Monday.

And, if the price is right, he has not ruled out the possibility of one of his players making a surprise exit.

Keane said: “We’ve had a few calls about some of our lads, so it could be a busy few days.

“I spoke to one or two managers yesterday and if they want to follow anything up I’m sure they’ll do that.

“Then we can put it to the players, but at the moment it’s just enquires.

“The one or two players who might go out have very much been involved in the first team.

“I got a call at 8.30pm last night from a manager and that took me by surprise. In fact, I was very surprised.

“The ball’s in their court now. If they want to make an offer they can make an offer.

“You just don’t know. It depends on that phone call.

“Do you think Everton wanted to sell Wayne Rooney? No they didn’t.

“But when someone offers £27 million plus add-ons things change. If someone offers me £5m for one of my players I might consider it.”

Keane has not yet made a final decision on loanee Stern John, who is due to play his last game for the club at Preston tomorrow before returning to Crystal Palace.

And he is still hopeful of bringing one or two new faces to the club before the window shuts.

“It’s very quiet at the moment but there may be some action in the next few days,” he said.

“Obviously we still have until Monday.

“There have been plenty of enquires going on, for players we might be interested in bringing to the club.

“We’re short in certain areas.

“I’d like to bring one or two new faces to the club and we definitely need to score more goals.

“But I’m always a bit wary about bringing new players to the club.

“I could have signed five players yesterday but I’m very reluctant until I know that player has a real desire to come to the football club.

“If that’s not the case then we won’t be signing anyone.

“We’ve got a good thing going on.

“We’re lacking in certain areas but we’ve got a spirit, desire and feel-good factor among the players and group of staff and I want to keep that.

“You’d have to buy a nasty player to break it but it can happen.

“If you bring in one or two bad eggs - and I’ve experienced that before - it can spread through the club like a cancer.”
