Aidy Boothroyd regards Colchester United’s FA Cup clash at Bromley tomorrow as their biggest game of the season so far.

And the U’s boss has warned his side to underestimate the non-league minnows at their peril.

Colchester head to Hayes Lane for the first-round tie tomorrow lunchtime in search of their first win in the competition for nearly four years.

The last time the U’s won an FA Cup tie was back in January, 2006, when they beat Derby County before losing at Chelsea in the fifth round.

Colchester manager Boothroyd believes a good run in the tournament can help to galvanise a team’s season.

But he has urged his players not to fall victim to a giant-killing act this weekend, at the hands of their Blue Square South opponents.

Boothroyd said: “This is the biggest game of Bromley’s season and of ours, as far as I’m concerned.

“This weekend, we’re there to be had – we’re a scalp and it’s a no-win game for us really.

“If we don’t win we’ve messed it up and if we do, we’re expected to win anyway.

“It’s potentially a huge banana skin.

“The ground will be full and it’s one of those great days where if you’re a neutral, you want the underdogs to turn over the league team.

“But we don’t want to be the victims of a shock – we want to be the team that goes through to the next round.”
