Roy Keane has admitted he was “hurt” by Ipswich Town’s abysmal opening to the season.

Town went 14 matches without a win before beating Derby 1-0 on Saturday and are still bottom of the Coca-Cola Championship.

Keane insists Town will not fall back into their bad ways, but will instead push on up the league.

He said: “We certainly won’t be sitting back now after the win over Derby.

“We know we have to push on from here because we have a massive challenge ahead of us and that starts with a very important game at Reading this weekend.

“The win is a monkey off the players’ backs, if I can put it that way.

“We all have our pride and it was hurting us and hurting the fans.

“We have not given our supporters much to shout about lately, although over the last four or five weeks we have played some good stuff but not got the results.

“On Saturday we didn’t play well but got the win and now we have to kick on against Reading.”

Town can leapfrog Reading should they claim all three points at the Madejski Stadium on Saturday.

Meanwhile, David Wright has been named in the Championship Team of the Week for his performance in the victory over Derby, in which Wright scored the winning goal.
