Roy Keane insists his struggling Ipswich Town side must not get “bogged down” by their position at the foot of the Championship.

The Blues are still without a win this season and slipped into the basement position after drawing 3-3 at Sheffield United on Tuesday.

However, they produced a vastly-improved performance and Keane believes they can end the victory drought at Barnsley tomorrow - if they reproduce their display against the Blades.

Boss Keane said: “It's an important fixture but we mustn't get bogged down by our position in the table, if that's possible.

“It can change very quickly and that's why it's so important to get that first win.

“It's possible to be too desperate, but we've just got to play the game, focus on the basics and show the same type of spirit that we showed on Tuesday.

“People have asked me whether I would have taken a point beforehand but I go into every game wanting and expecting to win. I've always been that way.

“There were good signs in the week.

“We played pretty decent and should have won, but one or two individual mistakes cost us.

“We played with a good tempo and intensity and posed a threat going forward.

“There were definitely pluses but there were minuses too.

“For me, a lot depends on our performance. I only look at the last game and our performance was OK.

“I always think that if the performances are good then the results will follow.”

Town will again be without injured skipper Alex Bruce for the trip to Oakwell.
