ROY Keane can win over the “vocal minority” who feel he is on borrowed time at Ipswich Town.

That’s the view of Blues chief executive Simon Clegg, responding to mounting pressure on the former Manchester United legend.

Keane’s side have failed to win in ten league matches so far and, despite being tipped as one of the favourites for promotion, sit rock bottom of the Coca-Cola Championship.

They crashed to a 4-0 defeat at home to Newcastle on Saturday but responded with a much-improved display at Sheffield United on Tuesday, drawing 3-3.

When asked about the pressure on manager Keane, Clegg said: “I’m not surprised, but I very much believe it’s the vocal minority.

“I had the opportunity to speak to a number of our fans in Sheffield.

“In the main, they were highly supportive and they’re confident our fortunes will turn.

“The fans deserve better and want better and I can assure them it’s not through any lack of effort that we’re not delivering.

“I’m not in any way trying to shy away from the fact it’s been a hugely disappointing start.

“But I take a lot of positives from the last couple of games, scoring six goals in the last two away games.

“OK, we’ve got to see that in the context of conceding ten in the last three but I took massive positives in the way the team played on Tuesday.

“For me, it was the best football we’ve played this season and I’ll always remain optimistic.

“We’re not a quarter of the way through yet and five of our ten games have been against sides in the top six.”
