Colchester United manager Aidy Boothroyd has completed his second loan signing in 24 hours.

The U’s boss has already brought in striker powerful Barnsley striker Kayode Odejayi.

And he has now added young Wolves defender Danny Batth to his squad, on a temporary basis.

Teenager Batth was one of seven Academy graduates to sign professional terms at Wolves at the end of last season.

The powerful 18-year-old defender, who has been at Molineux since he was ten years old, has featured regularly for Wolves’ reserves side.

Boothroyd said: “We have known about Danny for quite a while.

“He’s a young boy from Wolves and sometimes young players benefit enormously by coming out on loan.

“I had the likes of Gabby Agbonlahor, Chris Eagles and Ben Foster at Watford and sometimes they can’t break through because of the league the club is in.

“I’ve been watching him for a while and I felt it was the right time.”

Meanwhile, Odejayi has also arrived on loan.

The Nigerian joined Barnsley for £200,000 in May 2007 from Cheltenham Town, where he played under current U’s assistant manager, John Ward.

He hit the headlines when he scored the Tykes winner against Chelsea in the FA Cup quarter-final, in 2008.

However, the 27-year-old has since struggled to establish himself at Oakwell.

Odejayi spent the final three months of last season on loan at Scunthorpe United.

He has already made seven appearances for Barnsley this season.

U’s chief executive Steve Bradshaw told the Gazette: “Kayode will bring pace and power.

“He is a real handful for opposition defenders.

“We have some top-class players at the club.

“But the arrival of Kayode will add additional competition for places, which can only be a good thing.”
