Long-serving sports reporter Francis Ponder has retired after 29 years working for the Gazette. Frannie covered pretty much all sports in almost three decades with the paper but is best known for his years covering Colchester United. Former Layer Road legends Vic Keeble, Bobby Hunt and Peter Wright came to his special farewell event to wish him well, as did former Essex County Cricket Club skipper Ronnie Irani.
