JOHN Gorman is backing Ipswich Town to repay their fans with a morale-boosting victory against Norwich.

Blues supporters have had to be patient this season, with their side winning just one of their last ten Coca-Cola Championship matches at Portman Road.

However, assistant boss Gorman believes there would be no better way to lift spirits than by pocketing three points against the relegation-threatened Canaries.

He said: “Norwich have everything to play for and it’ll bring out the best from our lads.

“There has already been what you could call ‘fighting talk’ from the Norwich end, about their hopes to gain points at Portman Road.

“But from our point of view, we owe our fans a good home display and there would be no better time than Sunday.”

Town followers have voiced their displeasure in recent weeks and there were even chants of ‘we want Magilton out’ during last Saturday’s 3-1 home defeat by Doncaster.

However, former England coach Gorman is sure fans will get right behind the team at the weekend – and their manager, Jim Magilton.

“They always want their team to win and that’ll be the case more than ever against Norwich,” he said.

“They can help the lads achieve it with their backing for the players and the manager.

“We got last Saturday’s home defeat Doncaster out of system at Bristol City on Monday (1-1).

“And we have a habit of doing well in adversity.

“We lost at home to Southampton and then followed it up with two great performances at Wolves and Reading.

“I don’t think the manager or team got the credit they deserved for that.”

Gorman is a veteran of a number of different derbies during his long and illustrious career.

He played for Celtic against Rangers – at reserve level – and worked for Tottenham when they played against Arsenal and Bristol City when they faced Bristol Rovers.

He was also at Swindon when they locked horns with Oxford and Reading.
