Ipswich Town suffered their first home defeat in the Championship since August 23 when they went down 2-1 to Cardiff City.
The Bluebirds took an early lead when Gareth McAuley's error let in Jay Bothroyd.
And they fell further behind when Hungarian international Gabor Gyepes made it 2-0 after 26 minutes.
Town gave themselves hope three minutes before the break when Jon Stead bravely headed home Jon Walters' cross.
But their chances took a nosedive in the second half when defender Ben Thatcher was dismissed for a second booking – both for fouls on Wayne Routledge.
