A handful of Colchester Swimming Club members competed in the Essex County Championships and Special Age Group Relays at Braintree.

Sargon Youssefi, 17, swam a magnificent national time in the men’s 50 metres freestyle of 24.44 seconds.

He then enjoyed more success, jointly winning the men’s 50m butterfly, as well as taking third place in the skins final (a knockout relay) and reaching the final of the men’s 50m and 100m breaststroke and 100m freestyle.

Oliver Crosby and Tim Tripp had excellent swims, reaching finals in the 100m breaststroke and 200m backstroke respectively.

Bronwyn Carter was superb in reaching the finals of the 100m and 50m breaststroke with a bronze medal in both.

Colchester had more success in the relay events. They won the top relay club award and the Fitzgerald Shield jointly with Chelmsford.

The boys’ nine/ten years team of Spencer Prior, Cameron Simpson, Matthew Parsons and Arran Francis enjoyed well-deserved wins in the finals of the 200m freestyle and medley relays.

The girls’ team of the same age group, including Charlotte Holt, Philippa Davenall, Dolly Trigg and Lucy Coates, also swam superbly and came second in the 200m freestyle and medley relays.

Relay teams in the 11/12 year age group were Jim Vickers, Guy Harrison, Matthew Lemnell and Damian Green for the boys and Alice Insull, Ellie Trip, Megan Boyden and Danielle Hall for the girls.

The girls came fourth in the freestyle relay and the boys took seventh place in the freestyle relay and fifth in the medley relay.

There were other swimmers from Colchester who showed determination in competing and they were Louise-Jayne Watts, Paige Young and Sarah Larner, who achieved four East Region times.

The club are sponsored by Griffin Chapman.
