Football ‘Trouble-shooter’ extraordinaire Ian Atkins, who has managed both Colchester United and Northampton Town, believes new U’s boss Paul Lambert is a lucky man.

As the two clubs prepare to meet head-on in Coca-Cola League One action at Sixfields Stadium tonight, Atkins told the Gazette: “Managing Colchester United is plum job and Lambert’s a lucky man.

“He’s got the backing of a very good chairman; has a current group of players among the top six in the division; has a great set of supporters and a wonderful new stadium for his team to play in.

“What more could he ask for?

“The fans think the new stadium is going to win games of football for the team, but stadiums never won a game in my time as a manager, players do and once Lambert’s charges start producing the winning habit success will follow.

“Winning breeds success and when you start winning in any league at any level, pushing on becomes a lot easier.

“In Colchester’s case, especially now they’ve got their new stadium, Lambert should find it easier to bring new players in so he can get on with the job of producing heroes.”
