COLCHESTER Harrier Charlie Dobson has been named in the Team GB squad ahead of next month’s World Athletics Championships in Hungary.

The former St Benedict’s student, who graduated from Loughborough University earlier this summer, is now set to represent Great Britain for the second year running as part of the nation's 4x400m relay squad.

Dobson, 23, missed the UK Championships earlier this month through injury, but is ranked fifth in the UK for the 60m and is the UK No.2 in the 200m behind national record holder, Zharnel Hughes.

The Colchester Harrier, who helped Team GB win a gold medal at the European Championships last summer, is one of six athletes to be chosen as part of the men’s 4x400m relay squad.

The team also includes national 400m record holder, Matt Hudson-Smith, as well as several other athletes who make up the top four of the UK 400m rankings.

Starting on Saturday, August 19, the World Athletics Championships in Budapest will run for eight days.

It is also the first time that World Athletics Championships have been held in back-to-back years after the 2021 instalment was postponed by one year.

The heats of the men’s 4x400m will take place on the penultimate day of the championships, Saturday August 26, with the final taking place the following day.
