Tiptree United have moved to strengthen their squad ahead of their assault on the Ridgeons League premier division.

With the ambitious Jam-makers keen to take the premier division by storm, they have signed defender Mark Gaisford and utility man Lee Townrow.

Twenty one-year-old Gaisford was at Stanway Rovers, where he enjoyed a fruitful season, helping the club to their most successful season which featured an epic run in the FA Vase and victory over Colchester United at Layer Road in the Essex Senior Cup.

Strong in the air and comfortable on the ball, Gaisford can play in the middle or at right-back and is set to feature alongside the mainstays of last season - Liam White and Neil Shade, whose form helped Tiptree win promotion at a canter.

Wivenhoe Town were also interested, but Gaisford chose to join manaager Colin Wallington's Chapel Lane revolution.

Townrow spent part of last season at Wivenhoe Town before moving on to Redbridge where he helped them reach the Ryman League division one north play-offs, scoring five goals in 17 matches.
