Colchester United chairman Robbie Cowling is ready to adopt the role of Santa Claus and grant Geraint Williams his Christmas transfer wishes.

The transfer window re-opens in ten days' time, with the U's keen to bring in at least two new faces to boost their Coca-Cola Championship survival bid.

The club have said there is no specific sum of money set aside for January transfers.

However, Colchester boss Williams has identified a number of players he would like to bring to Layer Road.

And supremo Cowling is expected to back his manager in his efforts to bolster the squad in the coming weeks.

Williams and Cowling, along with U's chief executive Marie Partner, have met numerous times to discuss player targets. And Partner has confirmed that they hope to be very pro-active' in next month's transfer market.

She told the Gazette: "Robbie Cowling has not outlined a particular sum of money for Geraint to spend.

"What he has said is come to me with a list of players you would like to bring to the club'.

"We will then go out and make contact with those players in the appropriate channels.

"When we can strike a deal, we'll bring in those players who are on Geraint's wish-list.

"We're conscious of where we are in the league and we have got to be seen by the supporters that we're doing something about it.

"There will always be a financial factor - but I know that Robbie Cowling is very keen to support Geraint where he can."
