COLCHESTER UNITED lost out 2-0 to Queens Park Rangers in the Puma Youth Alliance League.
After the two sides' recent contrasting results in the FA Youth Cup it was back to league action once more, but the U's under-18s were unable to carry their cup form over.
Colchester had won 3-1 at Rushden, setting up an FA Youth Cup fourth-round home tie against Aston Villa on January 16, while QPR had lost 5-3 at home to Ipswich.
However, Rangers are looking good at the top of the league, six points clear of second-placed Wycombe and unbeaten this season, and that record remained intact after their trip to Colchester, who lost their second consecutive home game.
