TERRY Howlett is gunning for more European glory after being picked for a prestigious Grand Masters event in Barcelona.

The Dovercourt shopkeeper, who plays his club hockey for Colchester, has been picked for the England team to take part in the European Cup between March 21 and 24.

The 65-year-old - the oldest member of the 17-man over-60s squad - will be hoping for an amazing fourth success in the competition, having previously inspired England to victory in Rotterdam, Milan and Canterbury.

And Howlett, who runs Howlett Sports in Dovercourt, told the Gazette: "Being picked was great news - a very welcome Christmas present.

"None of us were entirely sure when the squad was being announced so myself and the other guys were chewing our nails.

"Some of my team-mates from last year didn't make the cut, so my news was tinged with sadness, but overall I'm very excited to be asked.

"The selection has been very competitive and, leading up to the announcement, we had matches in Peterborough, Tring, Exeter and then a final selection weekend back in Tring.

"The selectors have picked several new caps to help defend the title so I'm very honoured to be involved again."
