COLCHESTER and East Essex Cricket Club skipper Jake Foley hailed his side’s ‘complete performance’ after they comfortably saw off high-flying Hutton.

The hosts ran out six-wicket winners at Castle Park to move up to second spot in the Shepherd Neame Essex League division one table.

Colchester dismissed Hutton for 157 in 41 overs, before easily reaching their modest target with wickets and overs to spare.

Foley said: “It was a good all-round team performance again and a very good win against a Hutton team that had been top of the table.

“We knew that we had to show up and perform to our maximum ability and that’s what we did.

“It felt comfortable in the end and we won with 25 overs to spare, so it was pretty much a complete performance.”

Six different Colchester bowlers claimed wickets, with Jack Hebron (3-40) claiming three and Taurai Muzarabani (2-10) and Foley (2-20) two apiece.

“They won the toss and asked us to bowl first, which is what we wanted,” said Foley.

“For the first time this season, the seamers got it right up top and everyone performed well in the field.

“Wickets were shared between different bowlers, which is always good to see.

“We managed to keep them down to 150 and our performance showed that we have a lot of strength in depth.

“There are a lot of players fighting for places at the moment and that’s good to see.

“It was tough to pick out a key player against Hutton, because it was a really good team performance.

“Even when Hutton were getting the runs, there were still chances coming around.

“We got the early wicket which we wanted and we knew that if we stuck to a game plan, we knew we would be able to get the result we wanted.”

Colchester had little trouble reaching their target, with openers Foley (36) and Joe MacGregor (26) enjoying a 50-run opening-wicket partnership and Josh Rymell (46 not out) and wicket-keeper Ollie Lovejoy (20 no) achieving the same milestone to see the hosts home inside 30 overs.

Foley added: “We had our strongest side out against Hutton and our strongest batting line-up and I think it showed.

“It was good to go out there and play a few shots and be free.”
