MANAGER Adam Flint is setting his Witham Town players a "little challenge" over Easter.

The Town boss is asking his team for a six-point haul from their Bostik League division north home game against Brentwood Town on Saturday and then their Easter Monday trip to local rivals Maldon & Tiptree.

It is a challenge that Flint feels they are capable of meeting - especially as they rose to the task in the first part of his challenge by winning 2-1 at AFC Sudbury on Tuesday.

Flint said: "I said to the players at the start of the game at Sudbury that we had four games coming up and I felt we could win all of them.

"We had Sudbury, then we have Brentwood on Good Friday, Maldon & Tiptree on Easter Monday and then Soham (Town Rangers) the weekend after and I set them a little challenge to try to win them all.

"I think it's something we can do.

"We've had the likes of Heybridge and Canvey recently, but these teams are more ones around us.

"I know Maldon are a bit ahead of us, but they're not that far away and we should be looking to get results against them.

"I feel we have a good opportunity to press up and get towards the 60-point target that we want as that would mean we've surpassed what we achieved last year.

"We will make a few changes for the games over Easter as we have two games coming in three days, while Maldon are playing on Friday and will have had an extra day to recover.

"I want us to be as fresh as we can and we have enough quality in the side to make changes and we have people coming through."

Flint said he expected John Watson to be available for the Easter games after coming on as a substitute at Sudbury and Tom Robinson and Sam Owusu to be back for the weekend's two games after missing the midweek game.

Witham head into Saturday's action buoyed by a midweek win at Sudbury - that followed a 4-1 defeat at promotion-chasing Canvey Island last weekend - and Flint was full of praise of Lewis Payne, who scored twice to defeat the Suffolk side.

He added: "We played well in patches, but we weren't at our best so I was pleased that we got the result.

"It was nice to get a result on an artificial pitch as the last time we did that was at Haringey Borough in the FA Cup last year.

"I was really impressed by Sudbury as they wanted to play in the right way and were really good at the start.

"We had to get through that, but we then started to press them and got our rewards.

"I said to (assistant manager) James (Robinson) after the game that Sudbury reminded me of us last year as we would have done what they did - they got the equaliser but then conceded soon after that and that was exactly as it was for us.

"But Lewis Payne got two really good goals for us - the first was tucked away into the bottom corner and then he hit well on the half-volley for the second so I was really pleased for him.

"He hadn't played for a while, but we started him at Canvey on Saturday and I felt it was his best game for us.

"He won his battles and got further up the pitch and then he pressed on again at Sudbury and got his reward.

"With Kofi (Gyebi) or John (Watson) tucking in and playing more of a holding role in midfield, it means Lewis can get forward more.

"Because he hadn't played that much, he blew a gasket and had to come off, but he's done really well in the last two games."
