TEENAGER Anthony Wordsworth feels he will need to score more goals this season if he is to challenge for a first-team place at Colchester United.
The 19-year-old scored a superb late equaliser for the U's to earn them a share of the spoils against Blue Square Premier opponents Cambridge United last night, in their latest pre-season friendly.
Wordsworth's strike secured Colchester a 1-1 draw at the Abbey Stadium.
And the up-and-coming midfielder believes he will have to continue to find the net if he is to make a serious claim for a starting place in the forthcoming season.
He told the Gazette: "I know that as a midfielder, one of my jobs is to get forward and score goals.
"I hope to be involved with the squad as much as possible next season.
"I had a taste of it a couple of times last season at Stoke City and Southampton and I was hoping to get a chance against Crystal Palace on the last day of the season, but it wasn't to be."
