KEVIN Lisbie is hoping his goal in Colchester United's pre-season friendly victory over Heybridge Swifts will help to earn him a permanent move to Layer Road.

The 28-year-old striker, who ended his 12-year spell with Charlton Athletic at the end of last season, played for 45 minutes as a trialist in the U's 3-0 victory at Scraley Road.

He needed less than seven minutes to find the net, scoring with a crisp half-volley from Johnnie Jackson's free-kick.

And Lisbie is eager for another chance to impress Colchester boss Geraint Williams, as he looks to secure a permanent contract for the coming season.

He told the Gazette: "I wouldn't have played for Colchester if I didn't have an interest in playing for the club so hopefully the manager is interested.

"All through the summer I've not had a club.

"There have been teams that have been half interested but Colchester called me and asked me to come and play a game for them so hopefully I can repay the favour to them."

Lisbie, along with fellow triallist Bela Balogh, is likely to get another chance to impress this week, with the U's scheduled to play two more friendlies, against Cambridge United and Chelmsford City.
