NEW Colchester United assistant manager Micky Adams has said he jumped at the chance to become Geraint Williams' right-hand man at Layer Road.

But he has admitted that he still has his heart set on turning his hand to full management again.

Adams has been with the U's squad on their pre-season camp in Ireland this week and is expected to be officially unveiled as the Coca-Cola Championship club's assistant manager in the next few days.

The former Leicester City and Fulham boss said he did not have to think twice about accepting Colchester's offer.

He told the Gazette: "When I got the call from George (Geraint), I was interested straight away.

"He asked for some help and I was delighted to come on board.

"It was a no-brainer as far as I was concerned."

However, Adams has conceded he is still keen to become an outright manager again at some stage in the future.

"I don't want to put people off but I still harbour ambitions of being a manager again," said Adams, who has been out of the game since leaving the U's Championship rivals Coventry City in January.

"Both the manager and the chairman are aware of that.

"But while I am at Colchester United, I will always give them my very best."
