COLCHESTER United manager Geraint Williams has admitted it was a tough decision to allow young midfielder Robbie King to leave the club.
The U's have decided to release youth product King, with his chances of first-team football at Layer Road limited.
The former youth team captain made the step up to first team action in the 2005-06 campaign.
However, he failed to make the breakthrough and has now moved to Ryman League premier division side Heybridge Swifts.
Williams conceded letting King go was difficult.
He told the Gazette: "We were very disappointed to let Robbie go.
"He's a fantastic young man and he's a credit to both himself and to his family.
"Last year wasn't good for his progression as a footballer and we feel that him moving will help his progression."
