COLCHESTER and East Essex Cricket Club first team captain Jake Foley insists is too early to be concerned about their lack of wins in the Shepherd Neame Essex League so far, this season.

The Castle Park side are still searching for their maiden victory of the campaign in the First XI premier division, having drawn two and lost one of their opening three fixtures.

Colchester head to third-placed Ilford at Valentines Park tomorrow looking to get off the mark, following last weekend's draw against Southend on Sea and EMT.

They were unfortunate not to win, after Ollie Lovejoy's superb unbeaten century had put them in a good position.

But although skipper Foley is keen to see performances turned into results, he has stressed talk of their lack of wins is premature.

Foley said: “I think it’s too early in the season to worry about that.

“We produced a good performance against Brentwood which ended in a draw and there were quite a lot of positives that we can take from our game against Southend.

“The Hornchurch game was a little bit of a let-down but everyone has learnt from that.

“It’s quite early to be thinking about not winning.

“It only needs us to get a couple of wins in the coming weeks and we’re right back in the mix.

“But we don’t want to be losing the tight games and it’s about risk and result.

“We have a young side which I don’t think is a bad thing and hopefully we can just continue what we’ve been doing.

“Hopefully, we can go to Ilford this weekend and get the win that we’re looking for.

“I think our performance against Southend last weekend shows that we have the depth that you need, both in the batting and the bowling departments.”

Ilford have won one, drawn one and lost one of their opening three games so far in the premier division.

“Ilford are doing well so far, this season and we know that it’ll be a tough game but we’re targeting a win,” added Foley.

Colchester will be without Ollie Bocking and Greg Stephens for their trip to play Ilford but are hopeful that Ben Stephens will be fit.
