THERE were plenty of superb individual performances through the North Essex Cricket League fixture list but the standout one must have been Liam Jones' in the division two match between Great Totham and Harwich and Dovercourt.

Harwich had had their opening two games conceded, but finally getting action didn't bring a win as Jones proved a big thorn in their side.

Jones scored 51, which, along with Joe Smoker's unbeaten 82, helped Totham make 314 for seven and he then claimed bowling figures of seven for 45, which included a hat-trick, to skittle Harwich out for 168.

Garry Moores top-scored for Harwich with 60.

The win took Great Totham second in division two behind leaders Witham, who had a 93-run win at Purleigh thanks in part to both Adrian Chad and Ollie Cooke hitting 47 in their 231 for eight, before the hosts were restricted to 138 for eight.

There was also a win for Chappel and Wakes Colne against visiting Clacton.

Chris Leech fell one run short of a century and Ross Wyatt made 53 in Chappel's 284 for six before Clacton's innings ended with them on 168 for six and 116 runs short of their target.

In division one, Colchester and East Essex maintained their unblemished record at the top with a 77-run win against Eight Ash Green.

Jack Hebron hit 83 and Tom Allison 59 in the hosts' 256 for six, which despite a knock of 65 by Keith Hammond, proved too much for the Green to chase.

Second-placed Frinton were not in action, but Wivenhoe are third after a 71-run victory at Elmstead that saw an all-round display from Jonty Rushton.

He struck 42, alongside Matt Durrell's 58 and Jakob Kelly's 90, in Wivenhoe's 248 for four, before Rushton claimed four for 56 as the hosts were all out for 177.

The top flight's other action saw a win for Stebbing against Great Horkesley and Lexden.

Horkesley's Graeson Laitt claimed four for 19, but Mel Hussain's score of 98 proved a match-winning innings for the hosts as their target of 221 was 22 runs too much for the visitors.

The division three match between Kirby and Cavaliers saw two century-makers on the opposing sides, but it was the Colchester side who claimed an 81-run win.

Martin Vinter struck an unbeaten 109 for Cavaliers and Phil Sadler 51 in their 265 for eight, while Keiron Parkes made 116 not out and Max Oran 52 for the hosts, but Kirby's run-rate fell well short as they finished on 184 for two.

Halstead stayed at the summit with a seven-wicket win at Kelvedon and Springfield beat West Mersea by six wickets.
