COLCHESTER Amateur Boxing Club’s in-form youngster Tommy Reid recorded a third successive win, at Cheshunt ABC’s home show.
Reid produced some strong eye-catching punches to beat home boxer Dylan Lewis and claim a unanimous victory.
Lewis started in determined mood and came charging towards Reid, from the opening bell.
However, Reid stood his ground and defended well, throwing powerful counter punches to head and body.
Reid’s strength forced Lewis to change tactics and try to box more conservatively, keeping the Cheshunt boxer at arm’s length.
This allowed Reid to take the initiative more and choose when he wanted to apply the pressure.
Some strong eye-catching punches followed, helping Reid to record a third straight win.
A brave and determined performance was not enough to prevent Colchester’s Joe Davies from losing to Johnathon Morgan on the St Ives ABC Open Show.
Davies produced a gritty performance against the Trumpington ABC boxer, who was aggressive and strong and threw combinations to head and body from the opening bell.
Once Davies had found his stride he was able to catch Morgan with telling straight punches, as he advanced forwards.
But Davies’ good final-round performance was not enough and Morgan won on a unanimous decision.
Colchester’s Louis Curtis lost out to Hastings’ Liam Holden, at the Eastbourne Boxing Club Show.
Curtis boxed too much on the back foot, allowing Holden to gather momentum and load up his punches.
Despite some classy boxing, Curtis was not assertive enough and Holden claimed victory on a unanimous decision.
