Colchester's Sarah Claxton failed to break the eight-second mark in the 60-metre hurdles in the final chance to impress the Norwich Union Great Britain and Northern Ireland selectors before the team is finalised for the European Indoor Championships.

The championships are due to be held in Birmingham this weekend and Claxton was looking like an outside bet to compete there after she was third in her heat at the Seat indoor international meeting in Paris on Friday, with a run of 8.17 seconds.

Claxton's season's-best time was a run of 8.05s at the Norwich Union UK Indoor Championships two weeks ago, with a run that was good enough to take silver.

Winner Sara McGreavy secured an automatic place for Birmingham and selectors told Claxton that she needed to break the eight-second barrier to ensure her own place but Friday's time of 8.17s left that prospect looking remote.
