THERE were very contrasting fortunes for our Thurlow Nunn League contingent.

STANWAY ROVERS enjoyed a fantastic 3-2 victory at Gorleston and division one side HALSTEAD TOWN smashed Dereham’s reserves 7-1.

On the flip side, FC CLACTON were left shell-shocked as Ely City – basement boys before kick-off, having lost 12 out of 12 – won 4-2 in a remarkable game at the Rush Green Bowl.

BRANTHAM ATHLETIC also lost 4-2, at Haverhill Rovers, but WIVENHOE TOWN gained a useful point from a 0-0 draw at home to Felixstowe & Walton.

Stanway’s result was the perfect response to last week’s 1-0 defeat at home to Godmanchester Rovers.

Jake Clowsley, Jordan Palmer and Adam Kendirci netted for Angelo Harrop’s side.

It was also a memorable day for Halstead, who enjoyed a goal glut at Rosemary Lane.

Lewis Cunliffe netted a hat-trick and he was joined on the score-sheet by Tom Cook, Dan Grindrod and Jonah Gosling.

The Humbugs’ tally also included an own goal and the score was made all the more remarkable by the fact they were reduced to ten men when it was still 2-1.

Back in the premier division, Clacton had a day to forget after conceding twice inside five minutes against Ely.

The visitors then added two more before the break before the Seasiders finally got their act together in the second half, scoring two brilliant goals from Louie Newland and skipper Aaron Condon.

Simon Mann and Danny Garrad scored Brantham’s goals at Haverhill.

BRAINTREE TOWN RESERVES lost 3-1 in their division one match at March Town United.
