Colchester United legend Karl Duguid will revert to a position of youth-team coach, in the wake of Tony Humes' appointment as manager.

Duguid had been working alongside previous manager Joe Dunne and his assistant Mark Kinsella as first-team coach, following his retirement as a player at the end of last season.

However, he will now take up a position coaching the club's young players, following Humes' appointment and that of Richard Hall as his number two.

U's chairman Robbie Cowling said: “Karl won’t be working with the first team now.

“Since he retired from playing he’s been doing his coaching badges and we’ve been able to find him a position in the youth department.

“It’ll be great for his development, because he’ll be able to go and see football from that angle too.”

For six pages of coverage of Tony Humes' appointment as Colchester's new manager, see Tuesday's Daily Gazette.

Hardly a surprise appointment given what happened yesterday.
I was a huge fan of Doogie as a player - we'll see if he cuts it as Youth Coach.......to my mind, he has been a largely anonymous drain on limited resources whilst "working alongside HD & MK as first team coach".
I'm more surprised that he didn't leave the ship along with the other two.

Badges, Badges, Badgers.
I seem to remember him sitting on the sidelines before he stormed back and led us into the Championship.
Now I hope we win all 41 remaining league games this year.....
