Joe Dunne says there is no anxiety among his Colchester United players, as they go in search of their first win of the season.

The U’s head into their clash with Doncaster Rovers looking to get off the mark in League One, having lost two and drawn one of their opening three league games.

Despite being without a victory, Colchester’s performances have been impressive and they were hugely unfortunate to lose 2-1 at Notts County, on Tuesday night.

Dunne said: “I’ve just told them to carry on what they’re doing.

“We’ve kept the players positive and I have great confidence in the team.

“There’s no anxiety about getting the first win, because I’m a great believer that performance is key.

“That’s based on what we’re trying to do as a club and over the course of a season, things even themselves out.

“In our philosophy, we want to bring through quality players who will help us to win games.

“We’re in the business to win games, we understand that.

“My job as a manager is to keep us stable in League One and try and play in a way that allows these players to come through.

“Are we progressing in that? Absolutely.

“I fully appreciate that when we don’t win, there will obviously be people who feel that is the be all and end all.

“That’s not what we’re about and I think there’s an understanding from Colchester United fans about what we’re trying to do.

“Everyone is entitled to their opinion and they’re warranted.

“Some are more excessive than others but that’s not a problem to me.

“In the modern era that we live in, instant gratification of anything is what’s expected.

“If we lose a game, I’ll be judged on losing a game irrespective of how well or how badly we’ve played.

“If we win a game, sometimes people say that it’s papering over cracks and so on.

“I haven’t got a problem with what people say or do or how they react.

“What’s important is what I do to make sure that we as a club are sound in the future.”

I doubt it very much - I'd suggest Joe's got better things to do - at least I hope he has!

Joe's absolutely right and glad he has the strength of character to continue what he's doing. The quality of the football is far better than it has been for a long time and the whole club are settled into playing this way, i.e. pass and move with a higher tempo. It's just a matter of time before we spank someone and Paul Dickov's comments today are an example of this;
“They’re down there, but I watched their game against Notts County but how they didn’t win I’ll never know,” he said.
“They’re an attack-minded team with plenty of players who like to get forward so we’ll have to be on our guard defensively.
“Looking at their position and them being down there means nothing at this stage of the season.”
Let's get a good crowd tomorrow, have a go at them and hope the shots fly in this time. Up the U's!

I think he is acutely aware of the negativity and that I think is a shame because it doesn't reflect he general positive attitude of the majority.
My opinion remains that he is doing a good job in difficult circumstances and I would like to think he knows the majority of fans are supportive, positive and realistic.
Fancy a 3-1 victory myself tomorow.

Some individuals on here seem to be far too optimistic about Joe Dunne's ability. I am a true, honest guy who has been watching the U's for 5 decades and whilst I admire his positivity, he needs to be realistic and say that we need a win desperately! One point from a possible nine is not a good start. Of course I like many others want my beloved U's to do well but I don't see anything changing. I keep the faith, have another season ticket but really don't see where the goals are going to come from. At the moment I am worried as nothing has changed from last season and lessons like poor finishing and defensive lapses cost us victories and points and haven't been learned. I hope today Joe proves me and many doubters wrong! It will be a good test against former Championship opposition - I only hope he does not use those factors as an opportunity to make excuses when we have the after-match comments if we don't perform as we would like. Come on Joe and Mark-prove me and many others wrong today!

Ozzie says he has been watching for 5 decades and I know many Us followers feel that they have been frozen out/too old. They can fill those empty seats-bring grandchildren and their mates-bringing life back to the Club.

All I can say is the road is like a figure of eight (8) and one continuous corner.
