Colchester United were knocked out of the Capital One Cup first round after losing 4-0 at Championship side Charlton Athletic at the Valley tonight.

The U’s fate was effectively decided in the 24th minute when defender Magnus Okuonghae was sent off by referee Charles Breakspear, who ruled that the Colchester skipper had deliberately handled Callum Harriott’s goalbound shot in the area.

Yoni Buyens despatched the resultant penalty and former U’s youngster Lawrie Wilson struck twice in four minutes early in the second half before Simon Church added a fourth late on, as Colchester went out of the League Cup at the first hurdle.

Did we expect anything different. Every cup competition we go out at the very first hurdle.

I agree Crazy. We never get past the first round of a major cup tournament and we won't with some of the tactics employed earlier this evening. Mr Dunne is struggling to find the necessary excuses to compensate for the poor second half display. First half we gave them a fight but it became almost a training exercise for Charlton in the second half such was their dominance at that time. Just hope we can stop the rot with a good performance against Bristol City at the weekend. Stranger things have been known. Come on you U's!

I want Karl Duguid and Wayne Brown to step up to the mark now.
Its a leadership problem not a lack of quality players.

What went against us was an awful decision by the referee for which we were punished twice - penalty and red card. Playing with 10men against a championship side was always going to be a tough ask.
What the team needs however is backing from true supporters not people like you who use every defeat to knock the club.

We don't have what's required to be a half decent cup side. We are wasteful with our chances at one end and are a kamikaze outfit at the other - simples.

I know I speak for many many CUFC followers.
This is a COD(cash on delivery) season-they deliver- we give them our money.
Many of us remember Peter Herd asking for our cash on the last game of the Championship Season "to help with cash flow" and promptly allowing key players to walk away.
If that means we're not "loyal"-I prefer to say we're not stupid any more.

He is basically saying he will only pay to go if Col U are winning. If he wants to support a team that wins all the time he is following the wrong club and maybe should be going up to the Kings Road.
