Kenny leads from the front as Iron ease past Welling
Skipper Kenny Davis led from the front with a two-goal salvo at Welling to move Braintree Town to within three points of the Skrill Premier play-off places.
Their 2-0 win at Welling saw the Iron jump up to 11th in the table and they are now just three points shy of fifth-placed Nuneaton Town, who they face at the Amlin Stadium on Thursday and have four games in hand over.
While manager Alan Devonshire is still playing down his team's chances of finishing the season in the top five due to the number of fixtures they have to play before the end of April, his players are keeping them in the hunt.
Their win at Welling was Braintree's sixth three-point haul from their last nine Skrill Premier outings.
They took the lead in the 35th minute when, having seen home keeper Lee Butcher make a good stop from one of his headers, Davis fired home the opening goal.
That gave them a 1-0 advantage at half-time and it was doubled after the break.
Welling's Blaine Hudson had picked the ball up in the area expecting a free-kick to be given in his favour in the 51st minute, but referee Lee Swabey didn't see it that way and instead pointed to the spot for handball.
Braintree weren't about to look that particular gift horse in the mouth and Davis stepped forward to slam the ball into the net and make the points safe.
