Walker - U's should be higher in the table

Sam Walker admitted that Colchester United’s disappointing home defeat against Crewe Alexandra was another example of their inconsistency this season.

The U’s had been looking to make it three successive wins in League One but were beaten 2-1 by an Alex side who had started the day rooted to the bottom of the table.

The defeat means Colchester finish 2013 lying 14th in the table – five points off the relegation zone - and on-loan Chelsea goalkeeper Walker conceded that they should be higher.

Walker said: “It feels like we get ourselves a good win and then let it slip the next game, which is very disappointing and very frustrating for everyone.

“We were on a real buzz after the two wins and it’s inconsistency.

“The best teams up and down the country are the ones who do it on a regular basis.

“I truly believe that if we can find that we can go on to bigger and better things but it’s just finding that that’s the issue at the moment.

“It’s been the story of our season where we’ve won one and then lost one but we have to come back from this.

“I have a huge belief in the whole squad that this club should be higher up the table with the talent that we’ve got.”

Is this your farewell speech, Mr Walker? Not only have the results been inconsistent, but at times, so have your own personal displays. We would like to keep you, and given support and encouragement, you could become a top goalkeeper, but some inconsistent displays have admittedly cost us. Whatever is the outcome, I wish you well in the future and thanks for your support in the past - however, in football you are only as good as your last game. Up the U's!!

The way the u's have played this season so far is were they are.To do better is to attack teams with zeal and effort inthe last half.e.g notts county and crewe look at the video I'm sure even an irishman could see the answer.but can he inspire the effort. They still get their wage even if their effort is dire.twenty minutes is no good in a game that lasts ninety.

You can't blame walker. He is going to get interviews and the
Journalist will be able to get this kind of answer, neither can you blame him for his performances, yes he has made the odd mistake but so have all top goal keepers. Without doubt without him we would be lower in the league than we are now.
Sadly we are where we deserve to be. And unless we start getting some consistency we will continue to be a team scrapping it out to survive. Hopefully Sam signs to at least help give us that consistency as he surely will be top goal keeper in a few seasons.

I'm a big admirer of Sam Walker and hopes that he signs a deal permanently. However the team in general seem to think that if they get a goal in front then they have to defend what they've got. Reading the comments in the Gazette tonight (Monday) he says that they've had to defend in the past . . . the difference with yesterday was that if they've attacked Crewe, hassled them an got into their faces, as other teams do to us then the chances are that we may well have got at least another goal. Crewe realised what our weaknesses were and exploited it. They pushed us back ten yards in the latter stages of the first half and all but a few minutes of the second half. The simple answer is that we're not ruthless enough. The team take their foot off the opposition's throat.

Maybe they would if they had a keeper, more woeful decision making again Saturday, second goal your fault, you don't command your six yard box an are very flat footed for keeper!
