Gazette: Dunne delighted after "wonderful" win Dunne delighted after "wonderful" win

Colchester United manager Joe Dunne hailed a "wonderful" victory for his side after they thrashed Stevenage 4-0 at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

The U's recorded back to back wins, thanks to goals from Craig Eastmond (2), Jabo Ibehre and Blair Turgott, who scored his first-ever senior goal.

It was Dunne's biggest win as a manager, leaving the Colchester boss unsurprisingly happy.

Dunne said: "It was a wonderful victory and I'm delighted for everybody.

"Other than the result, there were a lot of other good things to take from it.

"We moved the ball around with a belief and a confidence on what was a really difficult pitch.

"It was a mature and professional performance, like it was at Oldham.

"It's very difficult to get back to back wins in League One, as we found out here against Notts County not so long ago.

"The two clean sheets have been very pleasing as was the fact that we kept passing throughout."

For more reaction and a match report and pictures from Colchester's win over Stevenage, see Friday's Daily Gazette.

What a wonderful result for Col U today.

Medicated soap must be crying into his supper tonight. Far from his relegation claims of 2 weeks ago and his "we will never thrash anyone under Dunne" claims of a month ago........

Well done super U'S. I believe this is 9 points from 12?????? Superb.

We now face a sequence of very winnable games and potentially could be almost safe by the end of February. Key to this is how many sides struggling below us still have to come to WHCS given that the trickier away legs have been concluded. The fixture computer has contributed significantly to our season's fate; and conspired with injuries. Dominic Vose was superb today; and the return of David Wright gave us defensive confidence.

Now if the town was to get behind its team and we added another 1,000 supporting voices - who knows? We have to face ALL of the play off contenders at WHCS; so I have not abandoned hope of a play-off pace; as none will relish a trip here.

Very good result. 9 from 12, 5 wins in 20 something, depends how u want to spin it. To me we are currently mid table which is just about right. Could go either way from here but hey ho, that's why we support Col U. For better or for worse, don't forget that.

It's actually 6 in 12, won the last lost 2 before that. But what matters tonight is that it's 6points out of 6!

Yes, agreed it was a wonderful win and provides some breathing space between us and the bottom clubs. However, we still looked shambolic at times defensively and if Stevenage had converted the chances we allowed them to have, particularly in the second half when we sat back and invited trouble, we could have easily conceded three goals minimum. Bearing in mind the fact that Stevenage looked as woeful as we did two weeks ago against Notts County, then the scoreline gave us a little morale boosting lift. We need to continue the momentum now. Very impressed with Vose and Ibehre as always, a tireless battler.Let's hope we can continue with another home win on Sunday. Up the U's!!

Yesterday’s game showed both sides of the team. First half we played with confidence which was ably assisted by the Stevenage keeper gifting us two goals. When we broke out and Vose & Eastmond & Turgot got involved we looked positive and played some very nice stuff. Ibehre works so hard up front on his own, if only he could just score more regularly.
In the second half we made hard work of it and Wilson especially could not get anywhere near the winger. Walker made three very good saves which on a different day would have gone in. Basically it was our day for the gods to shine on us. Excellent win and hopefully it will give the team confidence to kick on plus with players still to come back from injury we are beginning to have competition for places.

Stevenage keeper beat his own side in the first half and stopped us getting six in the second.shame because it would have been nice to stuff them by that same margin.

Hey only 16 Comments for thrashing Stevenage 4-0. Yet we got 84 comments when we lost 4-0 to Notts County..'Anyway' Glad I was one of the "Happy Clappers" at the "WHCS Mausoleum" to cheer the lads to victory.

Thank you Santa. I knew you were real.
4-0 is fantastic whoever it us against and whatever the circumstances. I think we'd all take 1-0 every week so lets enjoy the big scores when they arrive. Sure Stevenage could have had a couple in the second half but weve all seen games this season where the same could have been said about us. We deserved that win and the keeper (hilarious btw; true pantomine villain) dropping the ball would have been regardless if the lads werent sharp enough to be on hand to put the ball away.
Great result against the kind of team we need to be beating and in the kind of game we've caused ourselves problems in before.
Looking forward to tomorow very much.

Be nice to get a decent crowd tomoz but don't think it will happen. Doesn't help on Boxing Day, having 1 turnstile open, no food left at half time, and the sterile attmosphere. Club desp needs the area to be developed. The buses are also a problem, for the buses going to pubs or east having to wait over half hour after kick off not a good way to finish a good game.
Be nice to see the club bring proactive, why not do a January sale with ticket prices? Or buy one get one free

Yes, and only 5 comments on the actual match report. But never mind, we'd surely rather have more big wins and no comments at all.
