Ipswich Town skipper Jason De Vos was left flabbergasted by referee Andy Hall's decision to award a penalty against him in Town's 2-2 draw with Cardiff City.
The spot-kick, scored by City's Darren Purse, put the Bluebirds 2-1 up in the second-half at Ninian Park on Saturday. But Town fought back when Gary Roberts equalised with a penalty late on.
Hall initially gave a free-kick against De Vos outside the box until he consulted his assistant. The perplexed Canadian defender told the Evening Gazette: "The ball came up and I had to use my arms to jump.
"The lad (Steve Thompson) has come into the back of me and has hit my elbow - it was just two big lads going up for the ball.
"If the referee thought it was in the box I do not think he would have given a penalty.
"It was not a foul or a penalty, but that is life."
