Joe Dunne was pleased with his Colchester United side's display in their 4-1 pre-season friendly win at Braintree Town, on Saturday.

Goals from Andy Bond, Marcus Bean, Freddie Ladapo and Ryan Melaugh gave the U's a convincing win at Cressing Road, against their Conference Premier opponents.

Dunne said: “I got what I wanted.

“We came into this game knowing it would be one of the toughest out of all the games we have played because I have seen Braintree a lot and I know what they can do.

“They have good players and I just felt this would be close to what league football would be like for us.

“We coped really well first half and played some really good stuff.

“We got into a three-goal lead and looked really comfortable.

“They were never going to come out and let us do that second half and got in amongst us.

“They created two or three good opportunities and we had to be a lot busier in the second half, but when you are 3-0 up against a team, you can’t expect them to not have a go.

“All credit to Braintree because they had a real go at us and scored a good goal with a typical Marksey (Sean Marks) header.

“Overall, I was pleased, though.”
