You could save up to £268 on your car's petrol by using this hack, according to motoring experts.

Filling up your tank is a necessary evil and with the continuing cost of living crisis, it's an expense that many of us are all too aware of.

Whether you're commuting or doing the school run, there are some simple ways that you can help you cut costs that you might not even know about.

In fact, the car experts at Hippo Leasing have revealed how drivers can save an additional £268.32 on their petrol costs.

The team at Hippo Leasing recommend using an app to shop around for the cheapest petrol offers within a 5-mile radius.

The recommendations come as it analysed how much motorists in the top 50 most populated UK cities could save by simply using an app like PetrolPrices.

The data revealed that if drivers used an app to find the cheapest petrol on offer in the area, they could save up to £16.77 on a tank of petrol.

This highest saving was in Coventry, according to the research.

If drivers in Coventry drove 2.11 miles from the centre (for a cost of 23p) they would get the tank for £16.77, cheaper than the most expensive in the city.

This proves that it is always worth checking for the prices in your area, according to the motoring experts.

The average Brit fills their fuel tank fully 16 times per year, the team advises.

This means if Brits planned their petrol visits for the cheapest petrol station in the area, they could generate a whopping saving of up to £268.32 a year.
