Witham's Zoe is ready for Afghanistan mission
6:10am Thursday 30th June 2011 in Witham
A woman soldier from Witham has been training for a mission in one of the most dangerous parts of the world.
Lance Corporal Zoe Hawes, 23, has spent days driving in convoy in hot cramped conditions transporting vital supplies and personnel to military bases in the heart of Helmand, constantly ready to deal with enemy threats - all in the safety of her barracks in Germany.
Zoe, who serves with 1 Logistics Support Regiment (1LSR) has been training at the World Class Combined Arms Tactical Trainer in Northern Germany.
It is one of only two facilities in the British Army which houses nearly two hundred simulators providing realistic training on a variety of British Army vehicle platforms.
