Triplets born in the Queen’s coronation year have marked their 65th birthday.

John Edwards, from Maldon, and his siblings Trevor and Vivienne celebrated the day by meeting at The Bell in Danbury.

The trio were born on January 29, 1953, at St Bartholomew's Hospital in Smithfield, London.

Mr Edwards said: “We're triplets born in coronation year 1953.

“As it was so unusual in the day my mother received a cheque for £3 from the queen for which she bought a pram.

“At the time she had my two and half year old sister rosemary and nine years later my younger brother Brian was born.”

The siblings were bought up in Highbury, north London.

Mr Edwards added: “I left school at 15 to become a postman for 41 years.

“My brother Trevor is a bus driver living in Chelmsford and my sister Vivienne a teaching assistant who lives in Hertfordshire.”

The trio celebrated their birthday last weekend.

In 1953 the prime minister was Winston Churchill, the rationing of sweets which started during the Second World War ended, Ian Fleming published his first James Bond novel, and Watson and Crick announced they has discovered the structure of DNA.
