A NEW range of Christmas cards looking to put Maldon on the map have arrived.

The collection, designed by Tony Claydon, of Beeleigh Road, features a number of iconic sights from Maldon and the surrounding area.

Included in the hand drawn designs are Hythe Quay, The Brent, Moot Hall and the Maldon Victorian Evenings.

There are also designs from outside of Maldon, including Burnham Clock Tower.

Tony has been working on the cards for more than a year after realising there weren’t any Maldon specific Christmas cards.

He said: “I thought I would create some sort of souvenir that people could take away from the town if they were visiting or send to friends if they live here that was characteristically Maldon.

“That is why we have used some of these iconic and historic places on the cards.

“I have lived since 1970 and am very passionate about the town. I think it is important to have something like this that represents the fantastic sights Maldon has to offer and put the town on the map.”

Tony previously designed the Maldon calendar for the year 2000, and hopes the Christmas cards can have as far a reach as that did.

“It got sent all over the world,” he explained.

“I received letters from a woman in Australia who had used to the 12 months of the calendar to decorate her hallway wall.”

The cards can be bought from Super Natural, in Maldon High Street, for £2.99 each.
