TRIBUTES have been pouring in for a community marvel who sadly passed away from cancer.

Pam Harding, 72, of Wick Road, Burnham, was well known throughout the Dengie and was extremely active in many community projects.

A secretary for at Southminster Primary School for 18 years before retiring, Pam became a full time carer for her husband Gerry who was bound to a wheelchair due to polio.

Despite dedication to caring for her husband, Pam managed to maintain an active role in The Sound Collective and The Big Sing Choirs, helped run a disabled club in Cold Norton, and volunteered as a time keeper for Maldon and District Cycling Club.

Pam was involved with the cycling club since the 1980s, and was recently awarded honorary life membership of the club in recognition of time that she has put into supporting their events before passing away in May.

Darren Steward, Chairman of Maldon and District Cycling Club, said: “Many Tuesday night regulars will struggle to remember a time when Pam was not there timing their efforts, such was her dedication to this duty.

“Through her years with the club, Pam has made a great many friends both young and old and has seen and encouraged many young riders through their development.

“It goes without saying that Pam will be greatly missed by all those who knew her, not just within our club, but also by her friends outside of the club.”

Robert Harding, Pam’s son, described his mother as being an ‘incredibly strong’ woman.

He said: “Mum was an amazingly pragmatic person, who never let circumstances phase her. Our family motto was "It is what it is", meaning if there is nothing you can do to change a situation, just deal with it and carry on.

“She was always kind and generous, giving her time to many clubs and people. She was adored by her children and grandchildren and was actively involved in the whole family.”

Pam leaves behind four children and eight grandchildren, along with memories and friendships across the district.

Susan Steward, Secretary for the cycling club, said: “When you lose someone like Pam who has been a member of the club for this long, it’s like losing a family member. She will be missed by all here.”

Darren Steward added: “All of us at the Maldon and District Cycling Club would like to take this opportunity to send our sincerest condolences to all of the Harding Family at this sad time.”
